Bananas & Rum

Video Finds of the Day

My 1957 ride east to west across the US in the back seat of a Pontiac station wagon was accompanied by radio music. There was no Elvis, no Jerry Lee Lewis and no Buddy Holly. We were not going to listen to those kinds of stations, my Father said. Instead, we heard Perry Como do Round & Round endlessly. On the bright side, there was the Banana Boat Song. This is not really a video find, just a reminder of the greatest film music scene in film history. With Spanish subtitles!

BEETLEJUICE O Day Banana Boat Song Harry Belafonte

Here's your video find. Any mention of rum brings this earlier hit by the Andrews Sisters to mind. Some mighty fine dancing in this one. The song was by Lord Invader and Lionel Belasco as determined by a federal judge. You can hear Lord Invader talking about it and singing the original song on two audio files. They're at item #3 on this webpage.
