Video Find of the Day
What really got my attention here is the dancer in the first part of this. As my arthritis advances, I look for work-arounds.

Djembe Master
Video Find of the Day
YouTube is doing site maintenance so I'm grabbing something off my subscriptions. These are the same people who have brought us videos of child djembe player Isaiah Chevrier that I've posted.
I especially like the first sequence (immediately following the overly-long Star Wars-ish receding opening crawl) with the dancer. I'm thinking I may have glimpsed the African roots of the Funky Chicken!

Drum Team
Video Find of the Day
One of the benefits of being an army brat is all the entertainment. Five days a week and sometimes more we had enlisted men marched past our housing area chanting cadence. I was looking for videos of that, and found some, which we'll see later, when I landed on this video of a Swiss drum team. That was another way we kids were entertained. Every once in a while there'd be a formal ceremony on the big marching field. Or a rehearsal for one. We could get up close and follow the marchers around, or just listen to the drummers.
Some people see only the military or patriotic coloring. To me, it's music.

Haitian Drums
Video Find of the Day
Sounds great to me... maybe slightly out of synch but not as bad as some I've been looking at.

Gene Krupa
Video Find of the Day
Great clip from a 1941 movie featuring Gene Krupa and his orchestra. Stay for the end, because it also has "Kroop" playing on a matchbox and matches. The singer is Barbara Stanwyck in the role of Katherine 'Sugarpuss' O'Shea. The guy taking notes is Gary Cooper in the role of Lexicography Prof. Bertram Potts, who is studying Miss O'Shea's impressive modern slang, and ends up hiding her from the mob.

More Te Fare
Three more videos of Te Fare O Tamatoa, from Seattle Folklife, Memorial Day, May 28, 2007. First is one with the ladies in patterned blue gowns. Blue is alright. I don't care for green, but I can live with blue.
Next, drums, by teachers and students.
Third, the ladies are back in red skirts. Red is my favorite. I was taught by Lani and Lono that red was the first color, all the other came from red, that red was the most sacred color, because it's the color of a human soul.
